Console players, your wait is finally over. Once Human is making the jump to PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S in 2026, and the studio isn’t doing a basic port – they’re bringing full cross-platform play into the mix. For a game that’s been PC and mobile-only until now, this is a massive moment. And it comes with a first wave of exclusive content that makes it worth paying close attention to even if you’ve been playing on PC for a while.

Next-Gen Platforms, Full Cross-Play

Once Human landing on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is significant beyond just platform availability. Cross-platform play across console, PC and mobile means the playerbase is about to merge into something much larger. Co-op sessions, raid groups, PvP lobbies – all of it gets easier to fill, and matchmaking will feel noticeably more responsive.
The console versions are built for next-gen hardware specifically, taking advantage of the headroom on PS5 Pro and Series X. A visual upgrade is also bundled into the console launch for better immersion. Don’t expect a compromised experience – this is a proper, native release.

The Closed Beta: What Happened, What to Know

The closed beta ran from March 26 to April 9, giving console players (NA and EU regions) a first look at update 2.3 and the new systems it introduces. Registration was handled through Discord and the Xbox Insider Hub. Reaching Level 20 with one character during the test rewarded players with the Abyssal Dragon Set and the Dragon Dance-KAM – both of which carry over permanently after the beta ends.
Progress itself resets after the beta – everything you built and grinded during those two weeks doesn’t carry over. But those exclusive rewards do, which makes the time investment worth it for cosmetics-minded players.
Meet the New Deviants
The Devourer

The Devourer is built around sound detection. It reacts to noise you make in its environment – which means you can actively bait and manipulate its behavior. Loud weapons draw it toward you. Silent approaches keep it passive. The mechanic even goes further: if you can lure the Devourer toward Pale Hands (special Deviants carrying gas canisters), it’ll swallow one, trigger an internal explosion and be forced into a weakened state. That’s not just smart enemy design – it’s genuinely fun to learn.
The Morphic Tree

The Morphic Tree – called Mimic Tree in earlier previews – disguises itself completely as a regular tree in thick forests. Indistinguishable until you get close enough to trigger its effect. Once you do, it inflicts hallucinations that distort your vision. The counter? Keep chopping trees around it – in the hallucinations, they’ll appear as humanoids pointing you toward the Morphic Tree itself. It’s creepy, clever and the kind of design that makes you stop trusting any tree you see.
New Deviants Comparison
| Deviant | Detection Mechanic | Primary Threat | Counter Strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Devourer | Sound-based aggression | Pursuit + high damage in Dark Hunt phase | Lure to gas-canister Pale Hands, stay silent |
| The Morphic Tree | Visual hallucination on proximity | Disorientation, ambush from “grove” | Chop surrounding trees, follow hallucination cues |
What Comes Next
The closed beta was only the beginning. The full console launch rolls out across 2026, carrying everything that makes Once Human compelling – the island scenario, Visionary Wheel Season 3, the reworked Techs and Mods systems and the expanded main story drops. Console players are jumping in at what might genuinely be the best time to start.
The Once Human: Ultimate 2026 Guide is the best single resource to get fully up to speed – scenarios, system overhauls, monster highlights and the complete console roadmap, all in one place.
